If you’re like me, you like to do everything yourself and it’s hard to admit you need help sometimes. It’s so easy to say, “I don’t want to spend extra money when I can just do it.”
This past weekend I had the opportunity to take photos for Rachel, a wonderful makeup artist, in Winter Park, Florida (you can find her work here) and I want to share with you 3 reasons you should consider hiring a makeup artist for your photo session. (Because ladies, we can do our makeup ourselves, but a lot of us- ahem, me!- can use a little help!)
Ladies, when we feel good & are confident, it’s noticeable! I’m not saying we need our makeup to look perfect in order to feel good, but I think most of us can admit that a little pampering can make a world of difference when it comes to our attitudes. Every time I get a massage, I have an extra pep in my step for the rest of the day. (Sometimes the rest of the week!) If we’re going to invest in photos that we’ll treasure for a lifetime, why not go the extra mile and invest in ourselves beforehand? I truly believe that extra boost of confidence can make your photos even more amazing.
Some of us are born with long, beautiful eyelashes, but I personally have to cake on the mascara just to get mine to show up. Makeup artists can apply false lashes to make your eyes really pop in pictures. This is definitely up to personal preference- some people love them, some people hate them- but I personally am so glad I wore them for my wedding. My eyelashes were way more noticeable in the photos and I loved that they stayed on for a couple of days after the wedding so I didn’t have to apply mascara on our honeymoon.
3. EXTRA MAKEUP IS NEEDED IN PHOTOS
When I acted in plays in high school, my mom would do my makeup and cake it on. She had been a musical theater major in college and knew that the stage required a ton of makeup to show up to the audience. I thought it was way too much, but she was always right. If I had worn my usual amount of makeup on stage, I would have been so washed out.
The same is true for photos. We need a little extra to make our features pop, and most makeup artists know the right amount to make you stand out.
All of this to say, you should feel like you in your photos and if you don’t wear much makeup in general, you should stay true to that. Beauty is defined by what’s on the inside. It’s fun to get dolled up, but at the end of the day, makeup doesn’t make a person beautiful. The heart does.
If you have a photo session coming up and want to look into getting your makeup done, contact your photographer and they can refer you to one. If you’re in the Florida area, Rachel Amadea is your girl! & shout out to Gabby for being such a great model!
