Based on the title, I know what you’re thinking. Your most important job is to take beautiful pictures!
While that is SO IMPORTANT (please don’t book a wedding by yourself yet if you aren’t confident you can get great images for the bride and groom!), I think your most important job on a wedding day is to lead with a positive attitude.
This may seem cheesy, but y’all, it’s TRUE.
Have you ever seen a wedding photographer who looks miserable? Have you ever overheard one complaining? Have you ever seen one who looks super stressed out? I have. It isn’t pretty and it sets the tone of the day.
Our jobs as wedding photographers is not only to capture beautiful images, but to make the bride and groom and everyone around us feel like it’s the most magical day ever. Because for them it should be, and who are we to ruin that?
So it doesn’t matter if the timeline is completely off. It doesn’t matter if Uncle Bob has his camera out the whole day and is following you around. It doesn’t matter if someone didn’t show up for family pictures. It. Doesn’t. Matter.
SMILE ANYWAY. 🙂
If you need to have a panic moment, excuse yourself to the restroom and give yourself five minutes, and then get back out there and do your job.
Your clients can read your mood. They know if you don’t want to be there. It shows.
For one of my weddings this year, I got two hours (TWO HOURS) of sleep the night before while I was almost 30 weeks pregnant because my husband was up sick all night. To say I was exhausted before I even got to the wedding is an understatement. But my clients never knew because I refused to put a damper on their day. It wasn’t about me. It was about them.
So smile. Laugh. Interact with your clients, their family, and their friends.
I promise you they’ll love you for it!
